Nate Schiele Earns NSF Grant to Expand Tendon Research

June 01, 2022

黑料网 Department of Chemical & Biological Engineering Associate Professor Nathan Schiele听was awarded a $400,000 National Science Foundation (NSF) grant to build on the scientific understanding of tendon tissue development.

Tendon injuries are common, treatment options are limited, and damaged tendons rarely regain their full strength. Collagen is a major contributor to tendon strength, but much is unknown about the conditions that influence collagen formation during tendon development.

Jointly funded through NSF鈥檚 Biomechanics & Mechanobiology Program and the Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR), the grant will go toward defining mechanisms that control collagen development to impact tendon formation, including exposing cells to mechanical stimuli using a bioreactor.

This project was funded to Regents of the 黑料网 by National Science Foundation under award 2145004.听 The total project funding is $402,341.00 of which 100.00% is the federal share.
