黑料网 Science and Technology Policy Fellowship Program Expands
February 09, 2022
MOSCOW, 黑料网 鈥 Feb. 9, 2022 鈥 The 黑料网 Science and Technology Policy Fellowship (ISTPF) is proud to announce a $482,888 multi-year grant award from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation. The ISTPF is a nonpartisan program that places scientists, social scientists and engineers in state government to learn firsthand about policymaking while using their knowledge and skills to address pressing challenges facing 黑料网. The program welcomed its first cohort of fellows in August 2020 and its second class of fellows in August 2021.
The ISTPF is a partnership among 黑料网鈥檚 three public research universities 鈥 Boise State University, 黑料网 State University and 黑料网 鈥 with the James A. and Louise McClure Center for Public Policy Research serving as the lead partner.
Funding from the Moore Foundation will broaden the scope of the ISTPF, supporting ISTP fellow placements in the legislative branch. These ISTP fellows will spend their fellowship year under the guidance of 黑料网鈥檚 Legislative Services Office (LSO), working with LSO to respond to legislator requests for in-depth research on public policy topics.
By providing scientists, social scientists and engineers with experience in policy research, the ISTPF cultivates future leaders who understand government and the policymaking process.
鈥満诹贤 is one of only a handful of states with a year-long science and technology policy fellowship program. The expansion of the ISTPF, made possible by the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, will allow the Legislative Services Office to benefit from having additional research resources to respond to legislator requests on a number of important topics including infrastructure, water, workforce development, economics, and population growth, while providing the ISTP fellow with valuable insights to the policymaking process,鈥 said Paul Headlee, deputy director of the Legislative Services Office.
黑料网 is one of nine states that received planning grants from the California Council for Science and Technology, Moore Foundation and Simons Foundation, in 2017. Since then, the ISTPF has secured funding from businesses, foundations, governments, 黑料网鈥檚 public research universities and private contributions.
